A Sugar Plum Soiree

I absolutely LOVE the holidays and all the wonderfully magical things that come along with it.  I have always adored the story of the Nutcracker and knew that styling a party around this theme was a must do, so when my daughter fell in love this past year with a book called Tallulah’s Nutcracker, I knew this would be the perfect theme for her 6th birthday party!

Since I wanted to focus more on the ballet aspect of the theme, I decided to call it
A Sugar Plum Soiree!  I had the most wonderful time planning this sweet Nutcracker inspired birthday complete with adorable ballerina outfits, twinkling lights, a gorgeous dessert table filled with lots of sweets and treats, a beautifully decorated party table and to complete the magical theme, a real Sugar Plum Fairy joined the festivities!

The magical scene was set starting with the dessert table as the focal point.  With its backdrop made up of billowy white ruffles, and cascading tissue flowers in white, gold, red and varying shades of plum and a twinkling white Christmas tree placed just to the left.

The table was filled with delightfully ruffled cupcakes, beautifully decorated floral sugar cookies, chocolate covered Oreos, and delectable chocolate covered strawberries.  But the piece de resistance would definitely have to be the two-tiered cake overflowing in buttercream ruffles and adorned with beautiful red and plum blooms as well as the sweetest little angelic ballerinas and a glittery gold number six!

I set the children’s party table by first draping it in a white tablecloth and adding a beautiful gold sequined runner down the center.  The centerpiece was a simple display of delicate white trees and white porcelain Nutcrackers.  Each place setting was made up of a lovely square red plate topped with a whimsical pink striped plate and finished with one of my favorite details of the party, the sweetest party favor ever; a jar of “tutu fluff” aka… cotton candy! The sweetest tutu inspired place card frames sat just above the plate and were paired with a darling little gold Nutcracker, and finally the cutest white ornament cup filled with pink lemonade sat neatly on a glittery gold snowflake coaster!  Another one of my favorite elements would have to be the perfect little ballet pink Chivari chairs that surrounded the party table. They were the perfect touch!

As all the little guests arrived, they were escorted to the magical dress up station, where they were transformed into precious little ballerinas.

Their eyes were wide with excitement as they were then greeted by the most beautiful Sugar Plum Fairy.  Her dress was the perfect hue of pink and glistened with gorgeous golden details.  It was such a treat for the girls to dance and play games with a real live ballerina.

After dancing and playing to their hearts content, the little ballerinas couldn’t wait to sit at the magical party table and enjoy a sweet little lunch of berries and sandwiches.

After lunch came “Happy Birthday” singing, treats, presents and of course more dancing!

This was certainly one magical birthday Miss Talula will soon not forget!
